...think Trader Joe's. I was disappointed to see that TJ's doesn't have a store in Memphis. Anyone know of any similar places?

Been to Whole Foods but I don't think they have the same kinda 'perfect storm' of value, variety, and health-consciousness that TJ's has.

Yea... unfortunately there isn't anything else other than Whole Foods here :-( The reason TJ won't come here is because grocery stores can only sell alcohol under a certain alcohol percentage or something like that from what I've heard. Don't know the exact details. But it's sad... Memphis really doesn't have a lot of healthy alternatives for anything!

I always heard that the reason TJs wouldn't come is because they couldn't sell wine. But you can't sell it in grocery stores in Nashville and they have Trader Joe's so that can't be the real reason.

TJ's is building in Knoxville, too. Maybe Memphis is just off their distribution path?

Winchester Farmer's market, which is actually a grocery store, is pretty good and has extensive and unique produce. Don't miss their fresh corn tortillas, they make them daily, they are still warm when you buy them.

Whole Foods is expanding, doubling in size.

Fresh Market is so-so, I think they're overpriced, and they continually have expired foods on their shelves. Their "bakery" foods are loaded with preservatives, but they do carry some healthy goods that Kroger doesn't.

The Farmers market at the Agricenter is open year round, and has some pretty good choices.

I drive to Nashville and stock up on Trader Joe staples a few times a year.

What part of town did you decide to move to? Maybe we can be more specific??

Thanks for all the replies.

Haven't decided specifically but it will almost certainly be one of the East-Side communities.
