Actually, yeah, kind of in a way we were looking for small-town type atmosphere, but not having to drive an hour to work to get it. Personally, I want to live in Mayberry, but I'm not sure that's possible, LOL!!

Okay, can anyone tell me why in God's name it is so expensive to fly into Memphis and how do you find out why certain airlines won't fly into there? It appears Southwest does not, so we've been having to fly into Nashville & drive to Memphis. It's very irritating.

NWA has a hold on Memphis, and we are the Fed Ex center too. It's expensive to fly in and out of Memphis because of those things.

I heard that Memphis gave its heart and soul to FedEx to get them into the area.

Having worked in economic development in Memphis, I can tell you that when certain companies say 'jump', both the city and county ask 'how high?' FedEx is on that list.

Arlington was sort of Mayberry-ish. It grew more than 50 percent between 1990 and 2000, and the 2007 estimate has it growing an additional 89 percent between 2000 and 2007. Altogether, Arlington has grown from 1,703 in 1990 to 4,859 in 2007 -- a whopping 185 percent increase. In other words, it's becoming much less Mayberry-ish.

During that same time, Memphis has lost nearly 100,000 people. However, due to annexation, Memphis continues to experience artificial growth -- although by the 2010 census, we'll see that the losses are outpacing the artificial growth.

You may want to check out Tipton County to the north of Memphis, specifically Munford and Atoka. It's a straight shot up Hwy 51, and the average commute from Tipton County to downtown is 35-45 minutes. If you want Mayberry-ish, that's a good place to start.

I hate to tell you, but while it will take only 30 mins or so during regular driving, rush hour will boost that time to 45 mins plus, depending on where in Memphis you're going.
