You are taking my words and twisting them into something that I didn't say. The media in this town has been horrible when it comes down to reporting accurate information. And yes the media is racist. Not because of the story about herenton resigning but because they always show the dark side of the black community. (It's called white supremacy). There is a double standard that has ripped memphis apart and the region is dying because of it.
If you are too narrow to see it then that is a personal issue that you have to work on.

I am inclined to agree with you on some premises. I don't think the local news media are a bunch of white supremacists, but I do find that as with any media operation they have their reporting skills severely lacking as to what they present as the truth and they do try to make things sound so "sensational" when they really aren't. It's standard operating procedure in a town that has little big news except for the outstanding murder rates. Sadly, it is hardly unrecognizable that many of the murders that do occur in this city are in predominantly black parts of town. With that, the media attention is going to come along with their knack for turning everything into a negative light.
There does seem to be a double standard in this city as far as race is concerned more so than most cities I have been in but we are not an odd entity either. My personal feelings are that a little ignorance seems to go a long way on both sides of the table. I get the impression that in this city there is a derisive line when it comes to racial barriers and it's a very sad thing.
As far as the Mayor is concerned, I too will believe it when I see it. Part of me thinks that he feels like he's about to get busted for something but, then again, that could be the negative "spin-induced" thoughts that the news media has tried to shed on things as well. Overall, I do think he WILL step down but I think it's just another way for him to garner attention for an ulterior motive.
I think what this town really does need is a bit of change. I'm open for anyone who is willing to take on the important job of cleaning up whatever corruption there is in the local government and hopefully will be able to "clean up" the crime that does prevail in some parts of this city. Hopefully, if the crime can be subdued, the prevailing animosities that seem to pervade these racial barriers can begin to be absolved. I'm not saying that everyone in Memphis looks at the respectively different races with a bit of proselytizing animosity but I can't help but think that many do.
The key point for me in all of this is that hopefully Mayor Herenton will indeed step down and a mayor capable of mending relations between not only city and county governments, but also the respective white and black communities as well can take charge. How that is to be done I can only feel will be answered with first taking a look at what the "sensationalist" local news media is reporting on in the first place and hopefully absolving it.
Just my thoughts...
