Yes it is.
Whats even worse is people that visit the city for any length of time can pick up on it.
Think of Memphis as being a dysfunctional drunk. This drunk is bi-racial. Never finished highschool and has never left home.
Memphis has never liked himself. He has never been able to find his place in life due to his race because he has always denied one side for the other to appeese his peers.
This person Memphis is very religous. He is baptistcogic. Although he goes to church every sunday he walks through the door drunk and sits towards the back of the building and hopes noone notices his problems.
Also Memphis is prejudice against white people due to their history of being prejudice towards blacks. His family has seen many racial fight with their neighbors tothe north. He is still remembering and hurting over getting beat up by Mr Yankee Confederate and Mrs. Jim Crow Slavery. He feels as though white people are ignorant and easily miss guided by the media and family history. Memphis also hates black people due to his black friends social problems that he can't understand. We wont even mention how he feels about his father King Herenton.
Memphis is always seeking ways to improve himself but never does anything because he doesn't want to take anyones advise. So he uses quick fixes. IT ISN'T WORKING.
Now that Memphis is old. He's frustrated with life. He knows that he needs to change but doesn't because he doesn't know who he is.
Whats next with Mr. Memphis. Should he commit suicide? Try to reinvent himself? Any sugestions?
