Moving into Memphis Area (housing QA)
Good day.
My company is offering me this job@ memphis. This company would be Jabil and i think its located south of Memphis. Any ideas of good hosing areas for rent? Its just me and my wife (planning to have kdis soon) and we want to rent a home (not a aparment, as we have a dog) plus, the benefits of the home itself.
ANy ideas of good housing / low crime rates? We are a calm couple that enjoy night life but we dont party that often. We rather look for movies and good park bench to enjoy life.
Please let me know.
Thanks

Just review the rest of the posts in this forum and you will get the general idea, no need in repeating the same ole info all over again - in general, stay out of unincorporated Shelby County and Memphis city limits, choose the corporated cities (Germantown, Collierville, etc).
Not sure what you mean "south of Memphis". South of Memphis is Mississippi. That's a good choice as well but you will pay a state income tax.

Mississippi has a state INCOME tax, Tennessee has no state income tax (except on divedend income). City taxes are paid via property tax, relatively expensive in incorporated Memphis but since you are renting that may not be an issue. Property taxes are relatively cheap in MS to make up for the state income tax. The biggest issue in incorporated towns vs Shelby county and Memphis is city amenities and infrastructure (school system, road maintanance, law enforcement, trash pickup, etc). In Memphis it is rather lacking, in MS and the incorporated towns outside of Memphis you will find a noticable improvement. Be aware that crime is a definite problem in most areas of south Memphis.

Hi all!!
I am planning to buy a house in 2 months time and as I don't have much time I would really appreciate if you could tell me which is the safest place to buy a house in Collierville right now? Also I want to know which are the unincorporated areas to steer clear from!?

People, do not be scared of Memphis. True, there are some parts of Memphis you would not want to ever set foot in, but there are also parts of Memphis that are just as nice if not nicer than anything in Germantown and Collierville. I disagree about the infrastructure comment made above. Yes, Memphis has a horrible school system, but road maintenance, trash pickup, and law enforcement are not problems in Memphis. You can't say law enforcement is bad just because you have a large population of criminals in parts of Memphis. Believe me, they get arrested, it is just that the justice system in Tennessee is so screwed up that they are back on the streets causing more trouble in no time. Things in bedroom communities like Germantown in Collierville appear nicer because they are much smaller cities with relatively no "REAL" infrastructure to support. They do not have an airport, bus terminals, a trolley system, industrial areas, rail yards, or anything like that to support or deal with. That is why there are not many jobs in the areas outside of Memphis. They are places where you go to escape the big bad city everyday to lay your head and raise your kids. It is good to have places like that for people who do not like city life, but I get tired of people ragging on Memphis all the time. If it was not for Memphis none of these bedroom, suburban communities would exist.

Jamil is in Capleville (industrial area) around Shelby Dr./Whitehave-Capleville Rd/SR-175, and Lamar Ave/US-78.
Anyplace east or west is bad (unless you go so far East past Hacks Cross). You can go to MS and that would be a good place.
You can't go north unless you go so far north that you go past I-240 in to Colonial/Eastgate/University Area/Belle Meade area.
Lots of people commute 45 minutes to work.
