Visiting Graceland; how much time to devote?
Hi all,
Newbie here. Husband and I are visiting Graceland in a few months in our motorhome. We are traveling through the area and are wondering if it's worth it or not to camp overnight in this area? Are there other areas near Graceland truly worth visiting?
If so, please let me know. Thank you very much!

You might want to check out the Memphis forum on tripadvisor.com - that deals more with vacationing, this forum here is more for living in Memphis.
But, I do believe somewhere around Graceland has an RV park. Y ou'd want to stay AT Graceland if you do that, not nearby. G raceland is in a bad area of town, not safe. There is nothing else near Graceland to see, but downtown and most of the Memphis tourist attractions are about 20 minutes away.

Graceland is indeed in a very seedy part of town--I know--I had an office on EP BLVD for many years. There is a motorhome/campground very close to Graceland, but I would advise against stayong there, although I haven't camped there.
Are you pulling a car? If so, look at camping (in the RV) at the Agricenter campground in Cordova or Germantown. It's about 30 minutes from Graceland, but not too bad of a drive and there are a lot of places to eat around there, and you will be close to Shelby Farms. You will also be close to I-40 which is probably convenient if you are traveling.
I never would have thought I would have liked Graceland, but it was very well worth the visit. It is the #1 tourist attraction in Tennesse, anf the second most visited 'house' (besides the White House') in the nation.
I gained a whole new appreciation for Elvis and all that he accomplished in his too-short lifetime. You can do the whole tour, 'gold-package' in about 3-7 hours. Definitely check it out.

I agree with Bowyer concerning the RV parks...
And as an ex-tour guide at Graceland I would definitely say to devote a full day and spend the night in Memphis. If you are even remotely interested in Elvis you will want to take your time and enjoy the exhibits and that will take a day and then you can enjoy a nice dinner in town as well. Just let us know if you need a restaurant recommendation...

Graceland is in an area called whitehaven, its not that bad if you stay in that area. Now if you head north on elvis presley blvd you wll run into south memphis, but there is no reason you would want to be over there anyway
