From Bryton Towers to Carolina Lofts or Ambassador Commons (Memphis: apartments, rentals)

Thanks for the previous help--Bryton Towers is no longer a consideration. I have been going through the forum, though, and havent seen anything about Carolina Lofts or Ambassador Commons. Those are two loft/condos that I've seen on the web, but nothing really enough about either to know whether they're possibilities. I need to be close to UT's medical school, and they seem close. These are not rentals, though, and I'm not sure about buying. Anyone know how the area is around these or how much they go for (range?)? I can go for either a loft or a 1/1 at this point. Does anyone know anyone who lives at either of these two places? Anything anyone knows about these will help me make a decision. Thanks again for all the help you all give on this forum.

Carolina Lofts are brand new and in the South Main area. Ambassador is part of an old hotel, and it's in a sort of in-between area....in between South Main and downtown. Right there in that area, for whatever reason, it hasn't been developed as much. Still some abandoned stores and buildings. Not saying it's dangerous, but it's just rather empty. Also, you're right on Main near Beale, and the cruising traffic can be horrendous right there. Carolina Lofts is way more to the south and out of the way of all that. They are more like condos; Ambassador is more like apartments (actually, I think half of it IS apartments, and half condos).

Thanks pearlbob. My husband and son are in Memphis today (from Florida) looking at places. They've seen Claridge House (which seems to be a good value for the money--at least to an "outsider") and are now heading to Carolina Lofts. Based on your assessment of the area, they are not going to Ambassador Commons. With the limited amount of time they have in Memphis, you and others in this forum have been a great help in optimizing their time.

Go look at City House and The Lofts. I like these places a lot. If he is a single guy, check out 420 Front as well.
