visit - family friendly highlights?
We are considering moving to Memphis and will be visiting this weekend -24 hours - to help determine if we should make the move from Atlanta burbs. Anything we shouldn't miss? We really want to get a feel for what the "family" experience would be in greater Memphis. Our target cities for relo are Germantown or Collierville.

You have picked 2 great areas i think either would suite you well. Visit some of the best BBQ joints this side of the south. Rendezvous located downtown is great! Walk to Main and take a trolley ride and catch the "Riverloop." You will see alot of sites including Tom Lee Park and the South End of Main Art District. I am not an Elvis fan but Graceland would be a nice family get together. Beale Street is fun but I would not take kids down there in the evening...try a Sunday Morning/Afternoon and eat at BB Kings. Anyone else have any ideas?

Check out the Collierville Town Square. It is a nice place to spend a few hours. Look at the water park (Johnson Park) in Collierville. It is a great place for young kids once it opens for the summer--and free. You can fish in their lake as well. Good luck!

Not much to "see" but Shelby Farms is the country's largest urban park....complete with buffalo, ponds, trails, playgrounds, horses, etc. Good area to let kids play, jog, bike, picnic....located in east Memphis, a little NW of Germantown.

Be sure to check out Mud Island River Park. You can pay a few bucks and ride a tram to the park, or you can hike the quarter-mile or so and get some really pretty river views. Either way, once you get to the park, the kids can walk through a Mississippi River replica, tour a river-themed museum, and/or peddleboat around a big pool.
Really neat place. One of the most underrated places to visit in Memphis.

Just visited with family!
Hey,
I just visited my very single sister with my son and daughter. She really didn't know of many "family" things to do, but she drives by the Children's museum every day. Or as she calls it, "The building with the blocks and the plane" She knew nothing about it, just that it looked kid friendly. I was unsure, but it really was fun! They have a cool blog that keeps you more updated
What's Happening at The Children's Museum of Memphis?
Also, I being a complete nerd really enjoyed the pink palace.
Pink Palace Family of Museums
And everyone loves the zoo...but we made our mistake by going on a tuesday afternoon, I think it was, check their webstie...apparently tuesday is a free day for the city/county residents so it was PACKED! but it was still fun!
and with anything, I'd call ahead to see if they're right for your age of children.
