I would say BBQ is the most indicative of Memphis. BBQ Shop, Cozy Corner, Neely's, Interstate, Central, Leonard's, and (sigh) Rendevouz are the most famous. You'll get 9.2 million different opinions about which is best, and probably a dozen more other names.

I think Cozy Corner gives a good representation of both food and culture.

Is House of Mews still in existence? I know it is not at Cooper/Young anymore.
Funny/true story here.....I was having issues with one of my cats biting people and being mean to my kids right after we had one of our babies. I called House of Mews and asked for some help with the problem. The lady at HOM gave me the phone number to a pet psycologist! Luckily my cat started acting better within a week or two, and before his first visit with the cat-shrink!

I like the diversity of food and chefs, ranging from Grisantis, to Neelys, to Ishii (Sekisui guy). I also like the diversity of architecture particularly downtown. There are some beautiful old skyscrapers to brag about. I like how we don't destroy our history, and we don't cover it up either. We have borne some of our ugliest parts of our past for the rest of the world to see, and learn from. That is a service, and a treasure. Sometimes we hold too much to the relics of the past and that hinders progress, though.
I like how well positioned we are to make a leap to the next level if we had the right leadership. I like MPact Memphis and Leadership Memphis.
There are many hidden treasures to be proud of with Memphis. With confidence and leadership there is no ceiling to her potential.

Asian Palace has some of the best Chinese food I've had in a restaurant in this country . . . and I'm Chinese.
