Default List the good things about memphis

I read so much negative about memphis that I don't know if there are any positives to the city/surroundings!

I will be moving to Bartlett in less than a month for about 2 years due to a job relocation for my husband and I want to hear/see the positives of the area to which I will be moving to!

Please list them for me and for any person who will be relocating and is already skeptical and scared about the move!!

Don't disguise any negative as a positive!! (I.E. moving)

Is there a link for it? Maybe you could post it, that way Mariella can check it out.

Low cost of living
Mild winter, good spring and fall
Traffic not bad
Laid back
"Rock and Roll" history
Casino's nearby if that's your thing
Some good annual events - Memphis in May, etc.
Good barbecue
Tourist oppurtunities for your our of town visitors - Beale Street, Elvis, River Boats, etc.
No state income tax in Tennessee
Good suburbs
Historical sites nearby (Civil War, Mississippi)
Centralized location to rest of U.S. - Florida to New Mexico within a long days drive (15 hour) away.
and...
It's not Detroit, Gary Indiana, Jersey City, East L.A. or *insert really really crappy city of your choice*

I'd actually rather not post the link, because when I went and looked it has been closed because of trolls coming on and ruining the thread. If people want to give new thoughts, please do.

I would like to add architecture . There are some amazing homes in some of the historic districts. Annesdale, Snowden, Hein Park to name a few. And lets not forget my alma mater Rhodes College-very nice. I think this is a good thread it will give the newbies in town something good to look forward to.

And Central Gardens!!

Rhodes IS very beautiful, you are right.

A drive down Belvedere or Overton Park. Oh, the zoo! That's another huge highlight of Memphis.
