Default Apartments Near University of Memphis

Can Any one suggest places to live near the U of M or places to avoid, I'm a student moving from out of state so i won't be able to see the place first but I would like to be able to walk to campus (or a short drive).

The are to the south of campus gets very bad, very fast. There are plenty of so-so rental (meaning, homes that are pretty worn down by years of students living in them) to the west, north, and east. There are thousands of rentals in the midtown area.

I would highly suggest you come and take a look first. Memphis is a very dangerous city, and midtown has some very bad areas. I can't emphasize that more - do not rent and move into a place site unseen.

Mimosa Gardens & Magnolia Gardens on corner of Highland/Poplar (I rented there for 6 months and it was great other than the occasional monster roach), U of M student housing and dorms (lived in Robinson dorms for 6 months, was a good experience), and also checkout The Stratum which is 2 blocks from U of M which is a brand new 6 story fortress with indoor parking:

I think if I was going to rent and was primarily a student at U of M, my draft pick would be to live at The Stratum. Hopefully my helpful post does not get censored or deleted simply because I provided a helpful link for the OP.

Oddly, you won't find a picture of the Stratum building on the Stratum website but I found this online from months ago, it appears to be finished now:

It's really impossible to give recommendations on good or bad areas of town. You can go one block in any direction and things change. Keeping around UM (not to the south) will be okay, for students. Nothing fancy, pretty loud, and occasional vandalism/break ins, but nothing horrible.
