Little Known or Unknown Places in Memphis You Wish Tourists Could See
I like to go off the beaten track, and see the things that the people who live in an area see and appreciate.
What place in Memphis is underappreciated, or not really shown to 'outsiders' that you love about Memphis, Tn?

This sounds intriguing. Alas, I am not a native. Anyone?

I already gave up my favorite haunt in the bookstore thread...
Maybe Voodoo Village VOODOO VILLAGE HauntedAmericaTours.com if it's still around. There isn't anything to do but look, but it's certainly something different.
If you are into that kind of thing there's always Elmwood cemetery Historic Elmwood Cemetery, Memphis, TN
Maybe someone here can tell you if there is anything to do or see in the Cooper- Young area. I keep hearing interesting things about it, but I'm not familiar with it.
Voodoo Village I would definitely not go to alone, just because of the area of town it's in. Not sure about Elmwood Cemetery, haven't been there in years.

An idea for Elmwood is one of their Halloween tours.
The tour is more educational than spooky, but it is kind of fun.
You walk in a group through the cemetery and they have actors portraying various really interesting residents.

There are lots of different restaurants and a few shops in Cooper Young, but nothing that I would consider unique to Memphis or a "hidden gem."

Cooper Young
I 'googled' Cooper Young, Memphis Tn - it showed an area around the intersection of Cooper St and Young Ave (or visa versa). Is the correct area?
Is it a 'safe' area for a lone woman to walk & shop thru?

Hidden Gems of Memphis?
LOL --- I'm not really into 'voodoo', so Voodoo Village & me wouldn't mix - especially since I'm looking for things to do by myself, while my sister is doing her 'Elvis' things (conventions, etc), during Elvis Week.
Kitschy, books and unusual shoppes all in one neighborhood?
A hidden scenic area, only known to locals?
I like the idea of the Ornamental Metals Museum - sounds neat - it may give me too many ideas for fixing up my own home, though, and my hubby says I've got WAYYYYY too many ideas from HGTV!

Cooper Young is an area of about 2 blocks...honestly. It's the intersection of Cooper and Young. It is completely safe, filled with people at night. But honestly there is not much to walk through and see. Lots of restaurants/bars.

Definitely check out the Metal Museum. Very beautiful place and unique artists working on their trade.
Seriously, don't overlook going to Graceland. I highly recommend the tour of the property and I am not an Elvis fan! He was an amazing person--take the tour and find out just how amazing !!
