I would say not to go to Cordova. I went to Cordova in may of 08 to a friends and it is getting bad (near the Wolfchase Galleria). If you really like shopping, dining, and whatevering: You need to check out Hickory Hill. It is not the best of areas but, it is only going down in crime not up like Cordova is. It's close to the Hickory Ridge Mall. Fox Meadows which is in-between Poplar and Winchester (near Nonconnah Pkwy which I think is called 385 or Bill Morris) and they have some GREAT houses that are modern and very cheap. It is also getting better. But don't even think about going near to MidTown or Raleigh. Germantown, Collierville, maybe Eads/Lakeland, East Memphis, Hickory Hill, and Fox Meadows are your best bet.

So you're basing your opinion of Cordova on one visit 6 months ago? I live right smack in the middle of Cordova (within walking distance of the old train depot), and find it perfectly safe.
You're recommending Hickory Hill over Cordova? I think that's the first time I've seen anyone on here recommend Hickory Hill!
In case you haven't heard, the Mall is history - at least as a shopping mall....
I wonder if magnioliagrl will ever come back and tell us what she decided?

In the early 90's when I first got back from CA, I thought about Hickory Hill. Affordable housing, close enough to the airport and business parks (work). Glad circumstances didn't fall into place, or I would be stuck there now with no way out.
There are so many different things to take into consideration when picking a neighborhood.
What's important to you?
Imo it's easy to recommend Collierville for families with children. Lots of activities that are family oriented. Resale value, some sence of security, easy access to other parts of the county. They told us there were no children on our block...LOL we should have know when every driveway had a basketball goal. Luckily most are for the grandchildren Don't get me wrong, we know plenty of single people who live here, but there really isn't an outlet for them. The good news is you can join anyone of the many community organizations.

How about North Mississippi
I would like to put in my two-cents worth for the North Mississippi area. In particular, the Southaven area (just across the line from Memphis). I've lived in Southaven for most of my life and wouldn't live anywhere else. Please read my response as well as others to a similar query at this link.

Good luck with your move.

Resale value in Cordova goes down every single day (even with a good economy). I forgot that the mall closed in Hickory Hill. I have friends in HH and they still like it but because they have a growing family, are moving to Southaven, MS.
This was why I reccomended it.

"Resale value in Cordova goes down every single day (even with a good economy)."
Sorry....that's just utter nonsense. I live in Cordova and am on the Board of a HOA there, so I am quite aware of housing sales in the area. On what is your opinion based?

Cordova is decent now, but I wouldn't risk moving there because it could be bad in a couple years. And if you have kids and want to send them to public schools, they would be zoned to Memphis city schools. Bartlett, Arlington, Lakeland, Collierville, and Germantown are all nice communities. Tipton County is also nice but it might be a bit too rural and far away, but maybe you'd like that. Millington is decent, but it's always been a poorer suburban/rural area. I've lived in Millington and safety is not an issue, but I always hear complaints about the schools. They are the worst in Shelby county (excluding Memphis)
