Mud Island, parts of mid town, parts of east Memphis, most of Bartlett, Germantown, Cordova, Collierville, Mississippi are generally considered ok.

There are a lot of threads already on this subject. You could probably find a wealth of information if you did a search on this forum using the keyword "crime". Just an idea.

What are you looking for in a neighborhood? (Walkable, young, suburban, parks, etc) I know you're working for FedEx, but at the hub or the corporate offices? Just give a little more information, and we'll be happy to help.

Suffolk or Nassau LI?

Best I can compare is that Memphis has parts that are like Hempstead, parts like Valley Stream, parts like Uniondale and downtown is sort of like Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Mid-City is like Queens (Cambria Heights/Laurelton/Rosedale area).

Are you going to be working at the FedEx HQ? My boyfriend lives at Lincoln on the Green apartments which is right next door. FedEx employees get $100 off their rent if they live there.....there are also a few neighborhoods right across the street that, from the looks of it, seem just fine.

Default Don't do it!

Don't move to Memphis. This place does not want any cool, sophisticated and intelligent people. I moved here 2 years ago, and it has been the worst 2 years of my life. 36 days until I escape.

I used to describe this **** hole as an ash tray, but it's worse. It's the spit cup of chewing tobacco. Don't be come a hater -- because it will turn you into one, regardless of your determination. Don't move.

Really? Downtown's like Williamsburg?? Interesting comparison...very interesting. I love the northside of Williamsburg. The number of highrises is probably about comparable, too. Considering the sluggish pace that Memphis builds highrises, and the fast pace that the 'burg is now putting them up.

I should qualify that by saying 1970's Williamsburg, especially the area around the bridge. No one can match the current build rate of NYC, except maybe Atlanta.

If you have very dependable transportation and "back up" transportation...then I can't see distance as being an issue (trying to get close to the job). I would be more concerned about the area that I would most likely be residing in, particularly if you have a family.

Collierville,Cordova, as the other poster suggested towns that are close to Memphis in MS. would even be choices to atleast consider. If you find a town close by-continue to inquire or research the area. I definitely would not consider inner Memphis (not South,North or East for that matter)....again, this is "just my 2cents of the matter"
