Number 10 Main Street (Help Please ! PlzzZ)
Hello All,
I am a 25 year old single female ( from Buffalo,NY ) who has just started working at the Methodist University Hospital (Memphis). I am currently living with a friend but need to move out pretty soon. I was looking at Apartment complexes in the Downtown/Mud Island area to cut out the commute factor and happened to come across the Number 10 Main street Apartments besides Madison Hotel.
Do you guys have any advise regarding those Apartments ? I liked the apartments but they don't have an attached parking garage and I would have to park my car in an adjacent parking lot and walk a couple of minutes to get to the building. The security of the building itself is pretty good but I am worried sick about the little alley way which connects the Apartments to the garage. I would be doing at least 4-6 evening/night shifts per month and would thus need to go to work at odd hours as well.
Also, if you guys think that these apartments are not a good mix then can you make any other suggestions in these areas. I have checked apartment ratings and each of the listed places has substantial negative reviews
I would really appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks a million !

I don't know anything about those apartments but, if you were my daughter, I certainly wouldn't want you in any downtown alleys and parking lots at night!!!!!!!!

i don't know anything about those apts. either but the thought of walking through a sketchy alley at night is definitely not appealing! (i'm a 24 year old female). have you looked at the fielder square apartments? they seem really nice and are in a good area; directly next to autozone park. here's a link i found:
View Fielder Square Downtown Apartments For Rent in Memphis, Tennessee - ForRent.com
also, have you checked craigslist? there are a bunch of downtown condos for rent posted on there right now. good luck!

These are probably the most sought after apts downtown. The parking garage is right behind the building, you wouldn't have to walk anywhere.

FYI - I lived in Fielder Square and they were the worst apts I have ever been in. I wouldn't recommend them to a dog....just absolute trash (the people living there, and the buildings themselves).

Thanks JoeCartpath for the concern. Fittoac, I appreciate you pointing out these apartments but my friends had advised me against these for the reasons mentioned by PearlBob. I will have a look at the condos though.

Ammm, see I visited these apartments two days ago. You are right that the parking lot is right behind the building, but still its not connected to the building. The main buildng and the garage are separated by a small alley with 2 large dumpsters in it. My concern was basically with that small stretch and also for the garage itself. I say that since its a public garage and anybody can get it after paying 5 bucks. I would love to live at this place but just wanted to discuss this with someone who actually knew the area so that my fears could be allayed.
I checked the crime statistics at crimemapper.memphispolice.org for Monroe and Main and came up with 28 instances of vehicle larceny for the last 30 days along with 1 aggravated assualt and 1 rape.
I just wanted to find out if this is a safe choice or not given that I would be coming in and leaving at odd hours.
Thanks alot for replying. Its really appreciated.

Get some friends from school and get a place on Mud Island. I knew some people that did that and it was a good place at an amazing price when you split it up that way. They were students at the SCO.

definitely check craigslist
I was in the same boat except I'm a guy but my girl was possibly going to move with me from NYC. She did move about a month after I did & I'm so glad I decided on leasing a private condo with attached parking. I could not have lived in a unit without attached parking with my girl, just would have worried too much about her. We are very happy with the south main arts district & with Memphis!

Try the Bristol on Union...it is right next door to Methodist.
