Trick and treat
Is there any where in Memphis I can take my son to trick or treat on Halloween? I live in Midtown but i don't mind traveling to get to a good area?

Head to a big subdivision in Collierville---everyone else does!

There are a lot of Churches doing Fall Festivals that week, they don't like to call it Halloween. Collierville has a Mulberry Festival that might be fun to take your son to. Heading there tomorrow.

Good point - churches often do a trick or treat indoors. For (probable) safety reasons, Memphis is not a big trick or treat city. I think other businesses put together an indoors thing to, where you can take your kids to get candy.

In Illinois they used to do trick or treating in the malls. Do they do that here? I know we'll be here in Oakland trick or treating, which is like 15 min. from Collierville I believe. We're about 10 min from where 385 and 64 meet. We just moved here and there are so many subdivisions it's crazy. More subdivisions than I would have ever imagined.

LOL there are definately a lot of subdivisions. We live about 5 min from the 385/Byhalia Rd exit.
Yes. The Avenue is having trick or treat, I thought I saw a flyer for Centralchurch which is around the corner (they want a bag of individually wrapped candy per family as entry fee). Also the Collierville square. Info can be found by doing a collierville tn search. I guess it would depend on the age of your child/children as to which would be better. The teens in the area will probally just do the door to door thing.
We thought about moving to Oakland, have some good friends there; but can't beat being 5 min to both of our jobs. Hope you are enjoying West TN. There really is a lot to do and be involved in.

The Avenue is a wonderful outdoor mall. I would imagine their trick or treating would be a nice event for both kids and parents.

Here is a point I was trying to make in my previous post.......
When I grew up, (and I'd bet 90-100% of everyone one this forum), you went trick or treating in your neighborhood, dressed in costume, door to door. It was a highly anticipated evening to be sure. Tons of candy and there was no thought to the 'origins' of Halloween and some satanic/cult meaning. It was just good, clean fun, period!!
You can come to Collierville and do the same with your kids! No safety issues, homeowners dressing in costumes, tons of candy, decorated yards, etc. It is really like when I was a kid and I want to perpetuate the way Halloween was done when I was a kid. Going to malls, businesses, churches (w/ a few exceptions) seems so politically correct and is just not the same anymore.
"Small town America" still exists just a bit in the suburbs, giving credence (IMO) to wanting to live in the 'burbs. Not too shabby...

My mom lives in the Cooper/Young area. She lives right off Cooper behind the Ike's market on Union. I really don't think her neighborhood would be considered unsafe for trick or treating. Also, it might be considered cheating but I'd go to Harbortown! I'll betcha the treats are nice there!  |

Mid-town trick or treat.
We live in Central Gardens and I can certainly vouch for our area...from my experience the area with the most houses with candy is generally Linden to Goodbar north to south and Melrose to Belvedere east to west. We are on Vinton (right in the middle)...lots of kids lots of treats on our street. Oh and if you don't know Central Gardens is generally located between Cleveland and McLain and Union to Peabody.
