Post Moving to the Memphis area

My husband is Navy and he is getting transferred to Millington in mid January. We have been looking in the Arlington area for homes to buy and I'm asking for opinions if we are making a good decision. We don't want to live in Millington, but don't want to live too far from the base. Can anyone give me some advice on where the places to live that have great schools are? I have a 9th grader and next year my other child will be in kindergarten. What is the job market like in the Memphis area? Any advice/suggestions would greatly be appreciated!

Arlington and Lakeland are not too far away and have very good schools from what I have been told.

I don't know about jobs in Memphis....

Good luck!

Ditto Bowyer. Arlington and Lakeland are good areas, and it's a straight shot down Paul Barrett Parkway from Arlington to the base in Millington. You do not want your high schooler in Millington, if you can help it.

As for the Memphis job market, it depends on what kind of job you seek. What are you looking for?

Don't rule out tipton county, Munford, Atoka, Brighton and Covington etc. Very close to Millington, and from what I've heard Brighton has decent schools. Might be far away for a job commute to memphis, but I make it every day. It's not so bad. When the new I-69 gets finished (if it ever does in our lifetime) it will cut the commute down considerably. I know a Navy family that lived in Brighton while here. They have since been sent to Guam though.

Computer Man is right: Tipton County is a good choice for a commute to Millington. My dad did it for years when he was stationed at NAS Millington. His drive to his current job in Memphis is about 45 minutes (30 - 35 on weekends or night shift).

Lakeland and Arlington both have great schools. Housing in lakeland is more expensive.
