NHL fans in Memphis?
Are there any? Do any of the bars here broadcast NHL games? Sure we don't have an NHL team and Miss have the Riverkings, but there surely have to be some NHL fans around Memphis somewhere. Is there a hangout or am I alone here?

The Riverkings is basically a Memphis team. The only reason they play in MS is because they had the ice arena available to use for the season. It used to be called the Memphis Riverkings until recently (I think).
I know some fans. You might want to try calling around to some sports bars and see if they know anything. The staff will know if any groups meet there to watch the games.

I know a couple friends from Boston that moved down here, theyre fans but it is more of a northern thing i guess... I really dont know where they would broadcast even if they did. but yea the riverkings were Memphis until about two years ago and they took a poll on what it would be called. No idea how/why they came up with Mississippi, i dont know if it supposed to be the state or the actual river. dunno

Thanks to all who responded. It's hard out here for an NHL fan! It's upsetting that Memphis doesn't even have an Arena for ice hockey/ice skating. We are lacking a lot of things.

If NHL Center Ice isn't available with your local cable provider, you could go the Directv route for it. We've done that for Red Wings games ever since we left Michigan.
As for the River Kings, I feel like bush league hockey gives far better bang for your buck than NHL games do. In most cases, a prime bush league game close to the glass goes for less than $20; same ticket for an NHL game goes for many times that, and while it's fun to see the big names live once in a while, it adds up too quickly to justify very often for us.

I thought the Desoto Civic Center had a rink for ice hockey? A friend I had in high school played on a hockey team there and now plays on some team up in Minnesota.

Hey fellow hockey fan! I have access to watch the games at home, but nothing beats watching it in a group in an upbeat environment. I occasionally watch Tigers games this way, and it's fun. But there certainly aren't many NHL fans in Memphis.
I'm going to look into attending some Riverkings games, the tickets are affordable and it will give me that live hockey kick I need. Thanks for the suggestion!

They sure do! But it's a bit of a drive from my location. I'll just have to suck it up and hit the road.

Just our of interest, I saw they are opening a new ice arena this year in Cordova. That will be a much easier drive for most people (opposed to DeSoto).
