Default Train traffic through Arlington

I am new to the area and starting to look at houses to buy, I'm staying in a apartment in Collierville now and the train noise near my apartment is terrible.

One of the areas I am looking at is Arlington but allot of the houses that I like are near the train tracks or at least they seem to be on the map.

What I'm wondering is how much train traffic goes through that area and is it something that could keep a light sleeper up at night?

Thanks

I lived in Arlington for a little over a year. The neighborhood I lived in was right next to a railroad track. I am a light sleeper as well and can not remember being woke up a single time by a train. I can't remember seeing a train more than a few times. I hope this helps you out some.

It would depend on if there is a crossing anywhere near the home. If there is a crossing, they have to blow the whistle, which is what is so loud. Just the hum of a train going by is pretty quiet (unless even that bothers you, in which case I think you answered your own question)

Yes I understand, here in Collierville it seems like they blow the whistle the entire way through town!
I'm sure they would have to blow the whistle some going through Arlington, just not sure where and how much.

Dear expendable,
I have lived in Arlington for 3+ years and am maybe 1/8 mile from tracks. You get train traffic occassionally. Maybe half dozen times through a 24 hour period. And yes during the night. The whistle will blow. (I too am a light sleeper) However, they don't usually lay on the horn. You have only two crossings within hearing range of homes and I only hear the one time whistle. A little background noise in the house and I am able to sleep through it. The tracks are also wooded so the sound gets absorbed better than some of the Collierville tracks. Are you looking for new homes/historic homes? The historic part of Arlington gets the most train exposure.

We're not nessisaraly looking for new but not old either, at this time we are kind of focusing on the Arlington and Lakeland area.
I guess we will just have to try and keep at least a mile or two away from the tracks to be safe.

Both areas are very nice. Arlington is a great community with year round activities happening right in town. (ie. Christmas Parade, BBQ festival, Live Music on weekends during summer, etc) It is a very family oriented community. The residential areas are seperated from the commercial. I have a daughter in the elementary school and a son Graduating from the High School. Both schools have been wonderful and very accomodating (my son has special needs). If you need any additional info, feel free to DM.
