Don't recall hearing anything at all about that...has is been proposed? The future I-22 (which is currently Hwy 78) from Memphis to Birmingham is complete all the way to Hwy 78 near Jasper - just a few miles north of Birmingham. There is a stretch still to be completed from Hwy 78 to I-65. That's now my favorite route to Atlanta....or to Florida...

The only thing missing are the amenities. There's a lot of empty road on that stretch, a good local greasy spoon or two would really spice it up.

You probably don't want to run out of gas on that stretch of road either!

Why? It certainly wouldn't be any worse than running out of gas in most areas of Memphis.

It's not the danger....it's the fact that there is (I think) one gas station between the Mississippi state line and Jasper!

Is that the word from Alabama? B/c a couple years ago, it was (turning US 72 -- also called Corridor 7 -- into an interstate). Any sources on this?

Interstate 22 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Read up there. Basically I-22 is waiting on I-269 loop (Paul Barrett Parkway extended around the metro) in Memphis to be built/completed. That'll be five years from now!
