Memphis good places for dog?
Is Memphis good places for dog lovers? I have a GSD and I want to be able to walk him 12 months of the year which will be a welcome change from the frozen area now I just need to know the general climate and good areas

Weather here is generally fine...as long as you and your dog like the heat! The winters are relatively mild, it might get chilly but it never snows feet like you may be used to. In the summers it gets over 100 degrees with high humidity, and that (to me) would be worse for walking a dog. Just depends on your preference.

Are you looking for suburban Parks? Downtown Parks? Theres always Shelby Forest State Park, with hiking and biking trails and walking trails by the lakes and the river when the sandbars are up...

Shelby Farms (off Walnut Grove in east Memphis) has an off-leash area, I believe. And agreed, there are lots of parks and outdoor areas to take a dog around Memphis.

Memphis is a frozen place now as I type this. LOL
But that will change in a day and as was mentioned Shelby Park has a HUGE unleashed dog area, the biggest i've seen or heard of. I'm guessing at least a square mile. With trees and lakes and open areas.

Why are people into dogs? I remember my parents had some neighbors whose dog was an "outside" dog that basically barked all afternoon and evening, driving us crazy.
Indoor dogs, why? I never saw the need in feeding an animal and then teaching it not to urinate or deficate in your house. Then there is all the money spaying and/or gelding the poor beast so it doesn't hump the neighhbors animal. "Dog people" houses has a passing smell of urine and feces too.
