Hello, I am coming to Memphis for the Lakers Grizzlies game and just wondered what way is the safest to the Fedex Forum? I have never been to Memphis so I just want to try and avoid the really rough areas. I will be coming in from the west on either 40 or 55 and wondered which way was the safest? Drop down from 40 or go north after getting off of 55? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. THANKS!!!!!!!

Downtown is pretty well patrolled and there are lots of people around the forum when there's a game. You shouldn't have any problem. I would take 40, I think it's quicker and easier. Did you look at it on google maps or mapquest?

I would take the first exit and go Right on Front St.

Go down a few blocks and go Left on Union Ave.

Go a couple of blocks to 2nd St and turn Right.

Very shortly you will come to Linden Ave turn Left go one block and there's the Forum. There is some parking on the right just before or as you get there that is for a fair price. I've parked there without a problem.

There is parking at the forum itself, but naturally it fills up fast.

There are lots of other lots nearby. Expect to pay up to $10 for parking though you may pay $5-7.

There should be lots of other people around that you can see walking from the parking to the Forum.

I hope you have a good time!

I-40 is much closer. You get off on Riverside/Front, and take Front to the south (right). You'll drive a few blocks, and you can turn on many of the streets to go over a block or 2 and park in a garage. It's the safest area of Memphis, no bad areas around there.

If you get here during the daytime, and would like a great vista of the Mississippi River, then use 55, then follow it into Riverside Drive. 55 seems more rickety, though. Or take 40 and wind through the back streets to do the same thing. Entering Riverside Drive from the south is one of the great experiences the city provides.

Thanks for the advice everyone!! I came off of 40 and went down riverside drive. It wasn't bad a all and I thought the area around the Fedex forum was really neat. Beale street seemed really cool. Thanks again!!
