There is a hotel called the GenX Inn on Madison near 240. I stayed there and it's a good place. About $125/night + tax if memory serves.

Gen X is the closest one (the only one nearby). It's still a drive away though, you don't want to be walking in that area, especially at night. It's safe during the day, but Memphis has a large bum problem and you would most likely be approached by bums if you walk (plus, it's rather far down Madison). At night, you don't want to be walking, period.

Downtown is also nearby (still a drive of course, as it's further away) and has a ton of hotel options. Most are on the pricey side though.

Minglewood just opened last weekend, but it has gotten great reviews. It's on a so-so area of Madison, not the best area to be in at night, but I'm sure if there are a lot of people at the show, it will be fine to park nearby and walk to your car.

Downtown is the mecca of tourism here, and there are hundreds of restaurants, bars, museums, etc.

I'm very excited about Minglewood Hall. We really need a venue like that.

I concur with the GenX recommendation. A few years ago, I would have recommended the French Quarter, but I don't know if it's decent anymore.

Really?

Tells how long it's been since I've driven anywhere near Overton Square.

Downtown is the safest area of the city and you'd be around thousands of other tourists, along with lots of local residents. East Memphis is very safe too, although it is residential, and if you're here for music, a concert, and you want things to do/see while here...definitely do not stay in east memphis. You'll find yourself driving all over, and who wants to drive 20+ minutes after attending a concert or drinking downtown?

2.5 miles

If you wanted, you could take the trolley to Cleveland St. - that's a little less than 1/2 mile from Minglewood. Here's MATA's trolley page that'll give you rates, schedules, etc.
