That is correct 1000 FedEx services jobs were eliminated today. Grapevine says June/July for the next cuts.

First of all it was not just Services...Express got hit hard as well. And please, do not start rumors...let people breath for a day or 2. I was there holding my breath all day yesterday, it was sad and it was ugly. The June/July thing is BS.

Thank You
Thank you so much for posting your response to give us a little break with the rumors. I was also there holding my breath yesterday along with my colleagues and have been on pins and needles since the pay cuts. There was a press release yesterday by a FedEx spokesperson that said they did not expect any more layoffs in the immediate future. Let's all concentrate on the positive for a little while and pray that the economy recovers enough to make any further action unnecessary.

"..and pray that the economy recovers.."
So you mean ask God for a miracle??
To all affected by this, I will hope for the best for you and your families. This is an ugly time in this country's history. Laying off the foundation of our country is no way to fix anything. It only exacerbates the problem. A lot of companies are laying off because they project future losses. They're forcing times to be even tougher for many. This reminds me of Rome. Or the Titanic even. You know, when the ship was going down and the rich were saved first.

Does anyone know anything about how the selections of individuals were made w/i Express & Svcs in MEM? I'm shocked by selections made. From what I see, they selected a woman who just returned from cancer surgery, a 62yr (who looks 49) w/ 24yrs svc, a 45yr old woman w/ over 25 yrs, with a dibilitating joint disease who walks w/ a cane, a special needs man about 47 who works like no one I've ever seen--the ONLY one from his department, and a black woman about 42, the hardest worker in the group..the 3 lazy co-workers, they remained. I am ashamed that I work for a company that would do this to people...it is for this reason, there will be calls for a union. My opinion is in this day & age, there is no place for a union. But after what I witnessed yesterday, I get it. If there had been a union, an organized process of how employees would be laid off would have been put in place. It appears to me, if a manager didn't like an employee or didn't want to deal with them any longer they were added to a "list". We all deserve to know what the criteria was for those selected to leave....they didn't even use seniority, which is what is used for everything else. And to top it all off, the uppers are all in Detroit trying to find a bb coach for the city...this is the company I work for. I am sick to my stomach.

Oh and here's what I know about numbers and from which opco...250 from Freight, general office personnel-Harrison, AR; 219 from FTN, I know of people in MEM and in BUF that got it...but they were NOT staff, they were hourly and no MGMT w/ them; of the 500 in MEM, there were both Svcs and Express personnel. In BUF, the selection was by seniority, last in-first out. Not so at Freight, Svcs or Express.
