Hi...my name is Michelle and I just relocated to Memphis from Michigan with my 12 year old daughter and my 5 year old autistic son Caden. He is a wonderful boy, and due to his disablity, is terrified of salons or barber shops, making it virtually impossible to get him a haircut. I am looking for some I could pay privately to help me out with this service?

Autism Society of America - Mid-South Chapter . This groups has monthly support meetings and I believe an online message board, so the other local parents of autistic children sould be able to help you.

Oh, I so feel for you, because I have been in your shoes. My son is 12 and autistic, but luckily he's pretty much over the haircut thing! Seriously, I had to take him to all kinds of diff. places until I found the right "fit" and then he'd settle down. My son has preferences. No men, only women cut his hair unless it's his Dad. (he's biracial so my husband just clips his hair) Have you tried writing him a social story before the haircut? I would also try autism solution center, and other than that, I'd try to find a woman who is really nice and soft spoken, and maybe have him see you get your hair cut first. (you may have already tried these things but I'm just trying to throw things out there) I'm sorry I don't know of anywhere else, because I'm from IL, and my husband just cuts our son's hair. I wish you well, I know how hard it is!
