Best towns to live Jackson TN area
My family and I are probably moving to the Jackson TN area in a few months so I my husband can attend a Jackson TN college. I think I have read ALL the threads on West TN-doesn't sound great. At this point, we're committed to the Jackson area. Which towns would you recommend in terms of safety and country setting within 15 min or so? Schools are not an issue for our children-looks like private school is the way to go. We are moving from Vermont and want to be in the country if possible.

While cross-posting is usually not allowed, you may want to post this on the regular TN forum. Jackson is about 1.5 hours from Memphis, and while many people here could recommend something, you might have better luck from forum users who look at the main TN forum and actually live in the Jackson area.

15 minutes out of Jackson in about any direction is country. I know that Humbolt (north of Jackson) isn't so great, but I think Milan, Bells, or Alamo (most of which would be 20 to 25 minutes from Jackson) are okay. I've heard Henderson to the southwest is fine as well, but it would be 25 to 30 minutes outside of Jackson.

Lexington may be worth looking into. Not too far from Jackson. A little bigger than some towns...it has a Walmart and a McDonalds!!! ha ha!

There are actually some great neighborhoods in Jackson itself. If you don't want to live in Jackson proper, though, try Medina or Milan in Gibson County (north of Jackson) or Henderson in Chester County (south of Jackson). Depending on how far you're willing to drive, there are some great old, small towns in Henderson County (east), Carroll County (northeast), and Crockett County (northwest). Madison County (where Jackson is located) is quite rural outside of Jackson.
Outside of Jackson and Memphis, virtually all of West Tennessee is rural. There are the aforementioned small towns here and there, but they're definitely not urban in any sense of the word.

Strumpeace is right about the neighborhoods in Jackson. I know you are looking for country life, but you aren't all that far from the country anywhere in Jackson.

When you talk about west TN is bad it is probably memphis. I wouldnt move to memphis unless i was given a house there and probably i would dump it. if you are talking about Jackson, then it is ok. It is growing and traffic is getting sorta bad there....but like the other posters, Humbolt, Bells, Alamo sounds like a nice a quiet place. no party with the hood rats like in memphis though.
