Default My trip to Memphis (with pics)

I've posted pics before of Memphis, but this time I took some pics of things that I haven't seen posted on here before.

It's no secret that I love Memphis, and it was a pure treat to be back there the last few days--particularly with the cooler temperatures! I was particularly impressed with all that's going on downtown. While I'm kind of sad that Peabody Place is withering away, I also have to say "I told you so" because the idea that building a mall would bring people downtown was pretty far-fetched. On the other hand, it was great to see all the new condos and restaurants downtown. Based on comments we read in this forum, I was sort of expecting to see a dying city; on the contrary, I was glad to see that Memphis is doing ok. It's such a beautiful city.

Anyway, here are some pics of some of the things that I love about Memphis.

First up: the Parkways. Is there a more beautiful urban boulevard in the country?

Next up: Cooper-Young (which is where I would probably live if I were lucky enough to live in Memphis again)

The shady residential streets and boulevards with their lush vegetation:

And finally, the architecture of the beautiful old homes (and the new ones which were built to look old in the last pic--those are homes built where the former main library used to stand in Midtown):

Also - I agree with you about Peabody Place. It was never a good idea. The Peabody bought it out, and will be turning that area into part of their hotel, from what I understand.

The South Main area is waxing and waning - stores are leaving (clothes, boutiques, etc) but restaurants and bars seem to be doing well. The condo market downtown has stalled completely, but that has nothing to do with Memphis - that is a national housing crisis.

Nice photos....thanks for sharing. As soon as I'm able to walk a few blocks, I'll take some around my neighborhood to prove that the suburbs aren't all boring, cookie cutter stuff
