Default route from Bartlett to Downtown

Anyone local have suggestions for work commute route from Eastgate subdivision (St. Elmo and Kirby Whitten) in Bartlett to downtown? First morning stop is at Danny Thomas and Jackson,
Thanks.

If you want to avoid most of the traffic, you can go out Stage (changes names to James Road then I think Delano and maybe something else..go figure, it's Memphis and all the streets change names somewhere) to Thomas and then head south to Jackson. Some less than great neighborhoods on the way, but nothing horrible. If you aren't comfortable with that route, you can take Stage/James to Austin Peay and head south/west (Austin Peay/Jackson is considered an east-west route, but at the intersection of Stage/James and Austin Peay it is basically a north-south street) to I-40 or stay on Austin Peay, which changes to Jackson and take that all the way downtown.

An alternative route that would actually probably be better from your location is Kirby Whitten to Yale, west on Yale to Austin Peay, the west on Austin Peay to I-40 or just continue on Austin Peay/Jackson downtown. Generally, traffic is okay between Austin Peay and I-40 until you get close to downtown on the interstate.

After reading these directions, it's no wonder every one I know who moves to this town stays lost for a while. No rhyme or reason to the name changes of streets or the directions they go.
