A Good Location? (Memphis, Central: renting, houses, neighborhood)

669 S Mansfield St Memphis. It's close to Central Ave (I've read Central gets sketchy) and the block is 50/50 with bars on the windows. Is this (bars/half bars) something worth requesting from the landlord? It is also within the patrol range of the Central Gardens security, is this watch program worth subscribing to or is the fact that the patrol is there just as effective?

That's the very, very end of Central by some very bad areas of town.

The bars don't mean anything. That just means the houses are old, and people put bars on the windows 50 years ago before electronic security alarms were around.

If it's in Central Gardens, it is patroled. I'm not sure that is within CG though. Check the signs in the neighborhood. Call the association and ask. Although - if you are renting, I'm not sure if they will add you. You may have to be the owner.

If you live in CG and are scared of crime, pay for the extra patrol. They patrol anyway, but paying extra means they have your house on a list to specifically look at during the day, and they also check it if you go out of town, etc.
