Roofers Scam in Collierville after the storms?
I'm posting this in the Memphis section instead of the house section because it could be Memphis specific.
That said, with the storms we have had passing through the past few months, I have lost a few too many shingles. From the front of my house I can see I am missing 8 shingles (The house / roof is 12 years old).
Last week a "salesman" came to our door and talked with my wife (I was not home) about getting the roof re-shingled. Some of the things he told her were:
Collierville was declared a disaster zone so the ins companies have to repair the roof and they can not raise our rates
One we sign up with him, he will do all the leg work and fighting with my insurance company to get my roof replaced.
I'll only need to pay my deductable cost for the roof
The guy claimed he has done about 70 roofs in my area. So...has any one heard of this in the Memphis / Collierville area?
The guy is coming back tommorow afternoon; I will not be signing anything, I'll not be giving him any money, I will be asking for referances. I'm really really skeptical of guys like this. It could be lagit but it sounds like BS...
Thoughts, and yes I will report back tomorrow!

That said, I got my roof done with them. To say that I am pleased is an understatement. They dealt with my insurance company for me, did the roof, used all Owens Corning products, did not cut any corners, etc. I was pretty high maintenance with them once it was done wanting little things here and there...

I guess if you're happy than its OK. What about that "disaster area" business? For everyone's info you should know that a permit is required in Collierville for anyone other than charities to solicit at a residence. If they don't have one or you have any doubts call the Collierville Police non-emergency number and they will come and do a check on the individual.
