As a new person to Memphis, I have not purchased a washer and dryer yet and am in need of doing laundry! I am a little nervous about going to a laundry mat here due to some of the sketchy characters I have encoutered so far. I live in Midtown, so if anyone knows of a decent laundry mat I can go to, that is relatively safe and in a good location, please help!

Thank you!!

I know of a so-so place at the corner of Summer and Waring. Blue collar area. You might have a homeless person wander by from time to time, but other than that it's mostly families, lots of hispanics. Seems toalways be busy. I never felt really uncomfortable there during the daytime, the few times I needed to use it.

There is a new laundry mat at Whitten and Reese (turn south on Whitten from Summer or turn north on Whitten from I-40...it is closer to Summer though) that seems to be decent when I pass by it. There is (or was) a laundry mat near the Bartlett Heights apartments on Stage just east of Bartlett Boulevard) and another near Stage and Altruria that should be fine as well. Pretty long ways from Midtown, but if you have a car it wouldn't be a bad trip on the weekend.
