The area is definitely better than before. Keep in mind, while you were in town, the Ole Miss/Memphis football game was in town, which would have brought a lot more people to the hotels downtown. Which would explain why you say a lot of traffic around the hotels at the north end.

Just be wary of the area, I'm glad you liked it and it was able to fit your budget and dog situation. Having a big dog will definitely help you when it comes to crime.

See? YOu had a good time. Remember, Memphis is a part of the south and the vast majority of southerners are friendly people!

Uptown Square sucks!! I live here. Ghetto people scattered all over the place. Old crazy ghetto lady gloated to me about how she only pays $80 a month to live over here. They also have cockroaches and thin walls. Can't wait till my lease is up!

I know what you mean about GPSs not knowing a good area from a bad one. Mine loves trying to take me through frayser, raleigh.. on my way back to mud island from midtown every single time for no apparent reason it wants to take me off north parkway and down Mill Ave - went down there once at night and quickly turned around.

a friend from b'ham was visiting me last weekend. she commented on the attractiveness of the uptown square highrise and the attractiveness of st. jude and the pinch district. the only comment made by her that was in any way negative was made when we were on the island, and she looked at a condo slashed to $456,000. it was her first time to visit the island, and she loved it. i told her that she might want to wait until the highrise condo is built on the island...perhaps a little bit less expensive. i could not point out where it was going to go up. no sign up on the north end or south. does anyone know?

I haven't heard anything about a high rise in harbortown. I don't think that would fly over there They were supposed to do a high rise more south, something with million dollar condos (and cheaper) but that was scratched a while back due to money issues.

we saw some condos in the building process on Mud Island, but they werent high rises.. maybe 3 or 4 stories... not really sure what is a high rise... how many floors one has to have, lol. They were pretty and on the VERY south end of the island. Litterally right outside the entrance of the park.

BTW, we will be back in Oct. We had to sign an early lease to get the current special (which suprisingly we'll still save money paying the extra months rent!). So we'll be bringing a load down over Columbus Day weekend. The moving truck can haul the rest! LOL
