I live in a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment in a nice part of Cordova for $749 a month. It's in Walnut Hill apartments, which is out Walnut Grove a pretty far ways -- very quiet out here, and my apartment has all appliances included, even a decent sized laundry room with full washer and dryer. Easy access to the main part of the city -- I can get to midtown in 15 minutes. While I'd have to think long and hard before buying in Cordova, I love renting here and I love my apartment.

I used to live in another complex in Cordova, The Reserve at Dexter Lake -- I also loved those apartments (easier interstate access), but they were pricier and traffic was more annoying. Also, they don't come with any appliances except for a dishwasher, so that's something to consider.

The Preserve at Forest Creek in Collierville is nice and right off the highway. We liked that place and would have picked it if we didnt really want to be closer to Downtown and Midtown (where we hope to buy in a year or so). we were able to get a 3 bedroom in downtown/uptown for the price of a 2 bedroom there. you can get a smaller 2 bed for around $800 and they have a TON of amenities that is covered. Their pool is heated and is open 7 mo a year. I drove by Kirby Station which seems to be a popular complex and area, it was very pretty. we didnt visit it though (for some reason it was on the bottom of our list, we had SEVERAL must haves).

Get an apartment guide from memphis. It actually lists a bunch of places that were not on rent.com or other sites like that. In fact the place we choose did not pull up in our criteria list, yet fit us perfectly! Go figure!

There are several very nicer newer complexes all in the area. Germantown and Collierville were just a little bit higher in price range.

If you dont have kids and a large dog or anything, there are some pretty cool places downtown and in Midtown. If we didnt have kids and are monster of a dog, we would have gone for one of those. Some are VERY pricey, but some are very reasonable. almost all of the ones downtown had security 24 hrs. I know you said outside of Memphis, but just throwing it out thee in case you change your mind! I'm a city girl and cant imagine being any where else!

Hey, Walnut Hill is nice! They're relatively new too. I think those are only about five or six years old. They must have come down on the price of those. They seemed steeper when I was looking back in '04. I would have moved there if I didn't work Downtown. I hate commuting. All the nicer stuff is out there though.

The stated price of Walnut Hill is still pretty steep, but they run different specials each month that lower the price nicely. I love living here and would recommend it to everyone.

Apartments like those are extremely rare in this town. They look all modern inside and they weren't renovated. They were built from the ground up.

No, the market price for my apartment was $999/month, I got the special for $749! I lived in Jersey for a few years, I KNOW what a steep apartment rent is!

Bottom line is I just want to find a nice 2 bed place to live not too far from Memphis city and not pay tons of cash each month. Anyone know the names of any good apartment complexs?
As was mentioned, commutes in and around the region are pretty reasonable. With the exception of Interstate 40's interruption at Overton Park, there's a decent combination of freeways, main streets, and shortcuts. A trip from Germantown/Southwind to downtown can take 20 mins with free-flowing traffic.

Welcome to Memphis!
