I may have to be moving to the Munford area this summer. I checked out the local websites for it and couldn't find a whole lot of info. The schools look ok ( I have 3 school age kids) I can do private if the public schools are not that great. I am from a small town myself in the midwest so I am familiar with small town life but I have been living in Florida for several years. Husband has the possiblity of a job transfer. Any opinions on this little town would be appreciated !
Thanks |

I think the schools are safe, Munford is quite a ways from Memphis. I don't know how good they are education-wise, but safety should be fine. Actually I think at least the high school is a pretty good school, but don't quote me on that. Look up the Tennessee schools rankings online and see for yourself.
I don't think there is much up there....being so close to Memphis i'm sure most people just drive down here. I had a friend who's aunt/uncle lived up there and the few times I visited I didn't see anything to do. Just residential neighborhoods. |

The Munford/Atoka area is really growing. If you buy a house in the right area it will probably increase in value. There is a brand new Kroger which just opened and a brand new movie theater. I think that you can find just about anything you might need fairly close.
Munford is about 15 minutes from my home. It is not an isolated little town. It is close to Millington, which is also growing rapidly, and about 30 miles to a major mall, Wolfchase Galleria, and shopping area. |

Mzloolue mentioned buying a house in the right area. Are most of the newer homes in the past few years being built in subdivisions or are people mostly buying their own land and having houses built on them ?
Thanks everyone for your input ![]() |

It's a little of both. There are numerous new subdivisions. And land is available to build a custom home.

Munford is a great town to live in, as small towns go. It's close enough to the city so that you're not going to have to drive an hour to get to anything, but you're far enough away from Memphis to have that smalltown feel.
The schools there are pretty good, so I've heard... |

If you want to be bored out of your mind, Munford, Atoka and Brighton are great places to live.

I agree; I would drive myself insane in Munford. I love restaurants, bars, museums...anything TO DO.
Munford is definitely in the middle of no where and is residential only. Don't expect any good food other than burgers and home cookin'. Depends on what you are looking for, but Munford is not going to be a happening area. Be prepared to go waaay back to "small town life" like you mentioned. |

Ive just got a house in Munford and despite people think it is very quiet it still has everything you need. There are 2 walmarts around 10 mins away, a Kroger 5 mins away. Chilis and Perkins near Walmart. Bartlet is only 30 mins away which is where most people go for nightlife and then there is Memphis around 30-45 mins away.
Apparently there are plans to build the I-69 near Munford with an exit on it for Munford. It might be worth you going on www.munford.com and having a look at the plans for building etc. Munford is growing a lot and the city is really thinking about what to build and where to build it rather than just hurrying along with everything. Ive had friends who went to Munford high and have looked at reports on the schools around there, its one of the reasons I bought my house there. Tipton schools are meant to be some of the best schools in the country. One friend actually grew up in Munford then moved to Florida (the area escapes me) but shes moved back to Munford and still loves it. Depending on price range of houses, there are some brand new homes being built in Munford they started building the homes 2 weeks ago and they start at $150,000. There is also a lot of land around for people to but and build their own home. If you have never visited Munford before there is a website www.greatrentals.com and there are homes near Munford which you can rent. It might be worth you visiting the area before you move there. Hope this helps. |
