Question Best restaurant in East Memphis?

Just moved to Memphis. Living in East Memphis bordering on Germantown. Need to know the best restaurants in the area. Tried Brooklyn Bridge, but with the prices was expecting better. Any advice on where to eat?

Thanks!

Two places I always enjoy in East Memphis are Ciao Bella and the Half Shell. FWIW, Brooklyn Bridge doesn't impress me either...

Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen, just off of Poplar on Brookhaven Cir (near Windjammer, if you're familiar with that), is pricey but the food is awesome and very gourmet. Very intimate and cozy atmosphere.

Deli Mexicana (Germantown Pkwy & Wolf River Blvd)is the BEST casual dining spot!! It's pricey, but you're definitely getting what you pay for. The food is fresh fresh fresh and soooo incredibly yummy and authentically prepared. It's insanely crowded during the lunch hour, so it might be good to try to go at night or later in the afternoon.

Sekisui Pacific Rim (Poplar, just east of Perkins) has delicious sushi, if you're into that.

Owen Brennan's (Poplar & Shady Grove) has an incredible Sunday brunch. The highlight for me is always the crawfish omelet!

Also the Sekisui Humphrey's - the original, and closer to the Humphrey's area (Poplar near Gtown).

Pick up a copy of Memphis magazine. It has a dining guide in the back of every issue with a listing by area and a detailed alphabetical listing after that with descriptions and pricing guide. On the upper end, I don't think you can go wrong with Folks Folly, Erling Jensen's or Jarretts. Jim's Place is also very good but kind of in a weird area. If you like Italian, try Elfo's in Germantown.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions I will try to eat at as many as possible. How about a BBQ place in E. Memphis? Perhaps Corkys. Have not eaten at one yet, but their grocery store BBQ is some of the best I have had from a grocery store.

Corky's is okay. That is the original restaurant, it's always very crowded. It's a chain now, so (to me) it's become just that - more like a chain instead of real Memphis BBQ. There are a couple places in midtown that are better (BBQ Shop, Central). Germantown Commissary is supposed to be very good as well. Neely's downtown is also on the list, it's a bit east of downtown, so you don't have to deal with parking there which is a plus.

Germantown Commissary is my personal fav for bbq. Their brunswick stew is delicious too! And you have to try their banana pudding..... YUM!

Half Shell (seafood bruschetta--yummy!), Huey's on Poplar, El Mezcal on Perkins (or as we used to call it, Elmo's Cow), Memphis Pizza Cafe on Park.

For something a little more gourmet/expensive, Jarrett's on Quince. Haven't been to Buckley's for a while but I think they have good steaks at reasonable prices. Folk's Folly is excellent but VERY expensive (my hubby grills a better steak at home for about 1/5 the price).

I usually don't like chains, but I always got great service and excellent food at Macaroni Grill on Poplar at Kirby. Across Poplar from Macaroni Grill is a bagel place (the name escapes me) that has delicious skillet breakfasts. Owen Brennan's does have a great Sunday brunch.

Nothing fancy, but you might want to try Cafe Toscana (behind Houston's at Poplar and Mendenhall). And I've heard good things about Humdinger's (behind Chick-fil-a at Poplar and Massey) if you like fish.
