You need to go to the DMV. Be sure to bring your current license and 2 items showing Tennessee residence (like a power bill and a cable bill). Here are the places you can go to get your license (I'm pretty sure this is up-to-date):

# 6340 Summer Avenue
Memphis, TN 38134
(901) 543-7920
Monday - Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

# 3040 Walnut Grove Rd (Midtown)
Memphis, TN 38111
Monday - Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

# 3200 East Shelby Drive
Memphis, TN 38118
(901) 543-7920
Monday - Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

# 5019 West Union Road
Millington, TN 38053
(901) 872-0800
Monday - Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

# 2714 Union Avenue Extended
Memphis, TN 38112
(901) 452-7148
Monday - Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Union Ave extd was closed when Walnut Grove opened.

Shelby Drive is closed for remoldeling.

Summer Ave is ALWAYS packed, so I would skip that 1 to.....

The one in Millington I have been to on 2 occasions, no line no wait.

Another one you may consider(depending on what part of town your in) is Oakland, Tn. From Wolfchase Mall, you can be there in 10-15 minutes. One thing, the speed limit in Oakland is 45 and they shoot radar on the regular

7027 Highway 64
Oakland, Tn 38060
(901) 465-6576

I would go in the morning hours, as if you go when school is out you'll be hit with kids trying to get there learners permit.

Here's a link that may be helpfull:

Good Luck

I second the Oakland idea. Much shorter wait time.

BTW, I can count on my fingers the number of times I have received truly horrendous customer service in Memphis. My visit to the Summer Avenue DMV office is one that will always stand out. The woman we dealt with there was perhaps the most hideous, awful, miserable, hateful excuse for a human being I have ever come across in my life. And those were her good qualities.

I had much better luck with the Union Ext. office. Too bad they're closed.

Go to Oakland.

Tags will be around $115 if you live in the "city limits" in the county I beleive there about $90

If you move to Desoto County(Ms) they charge by how much your car is worth. Had a freind today tell me his 2005 Chevy truck tags were $500

Transfer/Renew drivers license. $15
