It's better than it sounds and reads, but you just have to live it to realize it. This board appears to be a haven for the complaints and negativity about the city. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. In fact, it's important to be introspective about the weaknesses you have, and how to improve them. I'm not sure how much constructive suggestions there are on this board, but none of our problems are unsolvable except for geographical stuff (no mountains, no oceans). With everything else, if we invest as much effort looking for solutions as we do complaining, we can solve almost anything.

In Memphis this is code for the Mayor must be a black liberal.
Sorry, should read "could be code for a black liberal."

It's sad if you don't expect what I said out of white conservatives. I do. I am often disappointed, but I don't care about race, or political ideology. Not when it comes to my city. Just get results. I guess we may be different that way?

Very interesting. A very similar topic about mayoral leadership is happening in the Atlanta and Detroit forums. And they, too have been divided by race rather than competent (or lack thereof) leadership.

As an aside, there were some humorous (yet truthful) letters to the editor online today on commercialappeal.com regarding Willie and his antics.

Not if they want to live. The currents are too strong. Too much traffic on the river. Then there's the pollution from the dozen or so states above Memphis that gets dumped into the river and its feeding tributaries. There's a local sailing organization and they won't sail on the river because of the currents and the traffic. If they can't use the wind to fight the currents, it's hard to imagine man being able to go upriver.

Barges go up and down the MS. I have seen people with personal speed boats on it, and I'm sure people fish out of it. But the further south you go, the more disgusting it is. I wouldn't put a toe in it. Have you seen what it looks like where it ends at the gulf? Yikes.
