hahahaha, I was not aware of them. No wonder Lakeland is such a haven for crime! What, with savage marauders controlling the lake and all.

They actually filmed "Waterworld" up there too, which was a true story based on the citizens of Lakeland. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype of being an urban film about Memphis and crime, like "Hustle & Flow" was.

I can't post a simple "haha" just to show how funny I thought that statement was.

Obviously that was a mistype. I meant 1960. But I'm glad you had fun with it anyway.

Memphis needs to stay at the forefront in the areas where it's either been a leader or been a visible competitor for projects.
Mayor Willie today with his outrageous conduct really hurts the image of the city and shows his lack of ability to inspire anyone, and has shown his desperation to retain power. His big-time playing of the race card for re-election, where if someone opposes him, means they're members of the KKK, or are bigots trying to re-institute the Jim Crow era, shows the hopeless thinking of the people in power.
This was local newspaper headlines, and is NOT exaggerated.

Agree with Tomterr....Mayor Herenton is the most racist person I have seen in Memphis. And he's not white, for everyone else who thinks that white people here are so racist. He DOES play the race card to exhaustion. If you don't like him, you're a racist. If you think his sleeping with unmarried women half his age fathering babies with them is immoral...you must hate black people. It's all about race with him, and unfortunately, it works. People buy into that to no end for some reason.

I'm not arguing with you. I just don't think that we should settle for someone with a regressive perception of the city and region's potential as a substitute. I think we can do better than Herenton and still advance towards our world-class goals.
