Default Questions about downtown apartments...

I am currently living in east Memphis and I have been looking to move downtown after my lease is up (March 2010). I'm sure there are threads about this somewhere in here but I'm going to ask anyhow. What are some of the nicer apartments downtown (or lofts and condos) that are available for renting. I am looking to a two bedroom unit in the downtown/south main area. I would like to be within walking (or a trolley ride) distance to all the restaurants, ball games, and bars. I have been looking on the internet and most of the places I'm looking for don't have a direct website and/or website. So I would like some input from people living or those who have lived in downtown Memphis about where to look! I am just looking to rent, not buy! Thanks!

Lots of people are renting their condos out right now, because they cannot sell in today's market. Check the newspapers for private listings of individuals renting out their condos.

Check the Memphis Flyer's classifieds, too. Also, just come walk around sometime. A lot of places have signs up, though looking now for a lease next March may be a bit problematic.

Well OP, I have a pal who is very much a neatnick. He works for Saint Jude and he lives over in the Fielder Square Apartments near the ballpark and all of that. This guy is very, very, very into being very, very, very neat and tidy...and if he likes Fielder Square then that is saying a heck of a lot.

Here is the actual company web site which runs the joint...

Here is the web page for the joint itself...

I know nothing more than what I told, ya!

Just remember alot of the downtown apartments and condos have high parking fees. we are in uptown square (just outside of the hubbub of downtown, but close enough to feel a part of it all) and the parking here is free! Some friends of our are moving to a place downtown and the parking fee is close to $100 a month!

I will say though, that if I didnt have kids or my big dog, I'd love to live downtown, parking fee and all!!! Most of the places are really neat!!!

get an apartment guide. I was suprised at how many places it listed that would not pull up in one of the apartment searching websites!!

I'm very new to this site, but just decided to register to put my $.02 in on this thread!

My wife and I recently moved from a run down apartment complex downtown (The Exchange Building) into a condo that the owner put up for rent due to the bad market. We snagged the 1500 sqft place at $1050/mo -- and that is a STEAL for downtown Memphis.

As has already been stated, the biggest problem with living downtown is parking. We currently pay about $75/mo to park my wife's car, and I park in the meets at night/weekend since they're free then.

If you are OK with talking to someone about places, contact Chris Garland at Garland Company Real Estate -- he's the agent we went through for our place and who we'll go through if/when we decide to buy it from the owner.

As with any place, be sure you check it out thoroughly and see if you can find any reviews on it. If you have a dog, be sure you're close to a park. We have two dogs and we're less than a block from Court Square Park.

Living downtown is great! I just wish some people would stop the bad-talk of downtown and actually try to experience it.

Thanks so much for the input! We are definitely moving downtown, but after looking, we realized it was good to discover all the places to live down there, now its just a waiting game until our lease is up to see what is/will be available when we are able to move! I CAN NOT wait to get out of our current apartment!
