I live in an apartment in Cordova. When I got home tonight, I found a paper card under my door. It says I need to call a number ( which I checked is a cell phone from Tunica, MS) for case no.xxxxxxx.
It aappears on the card that this notice is from UAR. Then I called back, a man asked for my case number and asked me if I am xx, who apparently wasn't me. I then asked what this notice was all about, the man refused to answer. I then just tried to ask if this was a criminal investigation, the man seemed very hestitant to answer but he finally said yes. Our conversation ended there.

Did anyone get a strange notice like this before?

OP, If it wasn't adressed to you I would go speak with the resident manager about who the previous tenant was and see if the names match.

You may wanna go ahead and do a covert 2:00am move out. I've been watching Conspricacy Therory w/ Jesse Ventura and theres some creepy crap going down man.

United Auto Recovery. There is probably a repo order out for the previous tenant's car...

Joe is right. It's auto repo. And the fact that the guy told you that it was a criminal investigation shows what lowlife scum some of these people are. God, I would love to have that on tape.

Well, not to defend what the repo guy said (it was wrong), but you have to remember that many of the people they are after are lowlife scum as well....

Some, perhaps. Certainly not all. And someone's failure to pay a bill is no excuse for a collector breaking a federal law (in this case, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act).

Unless there are some fairly recent court decision of which I am unaware, the typical repo man does not meet the definition of a "collector" under the FDCPA except for a couple of very specific sections of that law. Even so, it's not good business. In my own business, which is specifically exempt from the FDCPA, we abide by its standards simply because it's good business to do so...

My husband received a notice on his truck at work with a case number and phone number. All our vehicles are older models and paid for long ago. We have two kids in expensive colleges and they drive older model paid for cars. Should I call this number back?
