Schools
Well, depending on the age your kids are there are a wide variety of schools to choose from. I attended Fifth Consolidated for elementary school, and it was good when I was there but it's gotten sort of rundown, even though many of the teachers there are excellent. Also there is Dyersburg Primary School, which is newer but is stricter. Then there's Three Oaks Middle School, which is an excellent school. It has a fairly new building, about five years old, and lots of great teachers. The other middle school is Dyersburg Middle School. It's a good school as well. Your two high schools are Dyersburg High School and Dyer County High School. Dyersburg is more focused academically while Dyer County leans more towards a trade high school, and offers vocational training. After that, Dyersburg is home to Dyersburg State Community College, which is a good place to start your education, and also has an excellent nursing program and an education program through Memphis State.
We are 45 minutes from Jackson, TN, and about 1 1/2 hours from Memphis, TN, which is where most of us go for our shopping, since the Dyersburg mall leaves a little to be desired. We are about 2 1/2 hours from Nashville, the cheapest and easiest way to fly nationally or internationally.

Also, after reading a lot of other people's post it surprises me that everyone has such strong opinions, and only one person actually admits to living in Dyersburg! I live in Dyersburg, have for 20 years. I plan on continuing living here. It's a great town, it's safe, it's quiet, and really is starting to grow into a bigger city. We just got a new Italian place, Little Ceasar's and Popeye's was just built, and a Starbucks and Cracker Barrel is in the works. I work in the mall, and people come from all surrounding cities like Ripley, Halls, Caruthersville, and Newbern to visit, and it really is a nice place to live. My aunt is a nurse here, and her salary is just as competitive as some salaries in a larger city. The schools are great, the homes are well-priced, you can get some good land for not an outrageous sum of money.
Sorry this is getting long, but I do have more to say. Jackson is a good place to live, but it's getting pricier by the minute, and there is constant construction going on. Not saying Jackson isn't great, it is. It's a got tons of good shopping, eating, and plenty of things to do. Your kids would enjoy Jackson more than Dyersburg. I have friends who live in Jackson and have 3 horses, and it's much cheaper to house them at a stable in the country to actually own land in Jackson.

Your post reminded me --
When I lived in Jackson, believe it or not, I used to drive to the Dyersburg mall every year for Christmas shopping. The stores were nowhere near as crowded.

I have lived all over from Memphis to Dyersburg, in the big and small parts! I also had a horse and dogs! Millington is the best place to live with horses and dogs. Lots of acreage, yet you are close to shopping and all. You will not be allowed a horse or horses within the city limits, as you know. Make sure to get your travelling "Cogins test" for each horse, before crossing state lines.
Methodist North Hospital will be close to where you live in county part of Millington, which is now Shelby County.
I have lived in Dyersburg, TN. for the past 4 years and love it. However, with horses-should you move here...you may check for land in Roellen. Where people that have horses keep them and live in Dyersburg. Dyersburg is in need of Nurses, there is a shortage of them here. Hwy. 51 North leads straight from Memphis to Dyersburg, TN., it will take you through Millington, Atoka, Lucy, Covington, Ripley, Halls and Dyersburg. (Hwy. 51 N)
You can email me for further info!

Hi.
The original post is nearly a year old, so I'm guessing they've already decided where to live.
