Not much in Collierville though...
Bailey Creek Apartments <--- ever heard of this in Collierville, they're advertising for $835 for 1bd/1bath/fireplace and 740sqft.

Though quaint, there's not much happening in Collierville. It's just a quiet sleepy suburb. You should consider living downtown and driving out to FedEx, it'll only take you about 20 or 30 minutes. I know several people who do it and it's not bad.

How on earth did you go from wanting to live downtown to Collierville?!
Collierville is a good 45 minutes to downtown. Collierville is boring, it's mainly wealthy families. No young people. There is the new big outdoor mall there, and some good restaurants. But if you wanted to live somewhere amongst other young adults where there are things to do, Collierville is in the opposite direction.

I just re-read your other post....I completely skipped over the part of you wanting to move to C-ville instead. I'd highly recommend not doing that. It's really a residential area with big families, kids, yards, etc. No bar scene, restaurants are mainly family-oriented chains, etc.
Just because you work there doesn't mean you have to live there. Probably 5% of Memphians live in the same part of town they work in. I also know plenty of young adults who live downtown/midtown and then commute to Fed Ex, both corporate and the airport.
If you are dead-set against downtown now, I'd urge you to at least live in east Memphis. Collierville would just be a big bore for a single person. You'd be so far removed from any "hip" things in Memphis and you'd probably wind up having to drive 30+ min every weekend to meet up with friends and go out.

*Sigh* that's what I was afraid of ---------------
Then again -- commuting 40 minutes to and from work really really sux. But so is boredom, and I can die of boredom. LOL.
My boss said downtown is dangerous and I shouldn't live there. He said "move to East Memphis, it's a lot safer."
Moving sux.
The Claridge House <--- how's this place?
It's a little frustrating since ads lists streets and I have no idea where these streets are and what constitutes as safe downtown...grrrr

Oh good grief.
Downtown is NOT dangerous.
That is the stereotypical close minded attitude of a lot of older people in the burbs. "Oooo Memphis is scary!!!" Believe me, my family is like that too. Gasp, there's a homeless person, run!
If downtown was dangerous, why do people buy million dollar homes on the bluff? Or $400k condos? Why are there so many 20-something year olds there? Why is it the tourist mecca of the city?
No offense to your boss, but he obviously doesn't know what he is talking about.
Everyone commutes 40 min to work here. Seriously. That's just "what people do" in Memphis. Most people live in the burbs and commute into town. You could live in town and commute to the burbs, which in reality would be a lot faster during rush hour because you'd be going the opposite direction as everyone else.
I'm seriously laughing that a "boss" would tell a potential young adult employee not to live downtown because it is dangerous. That's really sad.

1) Statistically speaking, Downtown is one of the safest parts of Memphis.
2) Collierville is rather detached. If you want to move that direction but still be able to enjoy city conveniences, might I suggest an apartment in East Memphis, Germantown, or even Cordova (where I live)? There are plenty of apartments in all three that run for less than $1000 per month.

Re-reading my own post, I apologize if I sounded rude. The reality is, you talk to any young adult who lives in downtown or midtown, and they HATE the burbs. They never drive out there. They refuse to drive past the UM area. The burbs, especially Collierville, are for people who have a dog, 2 cats, and 2.3 kids with a big yard, riding lawn mower, and a picket fence.
I've known a few younger people who have moved here, gotten a place in the burbs, and within a couple months are already looking to move downtown. And that's Cordova, not even Collierville which is much further away. At least Cordova has a ton of chain restaurants and bars.

im a 21 yr old male. ive lived in collierville, germantown, cordova, bartlett. pretty well all the burbs. there is absolutly nothing to do. cordova or the bartlett/wolfchase area is about the only suburban area i'd recommend to a young single person. lots of shopping, restaurants, and a few bars. there arent any night clubs or anything like that there, though. downtown and east memphis is where a lot of the young professionals live.
also, Pearlbob mentioned the commute traffic. it's true, most people live outside memphis and work in the city, so traffic coming in (in the AM) and going out (in the PM) is terrible. if you stayed in east memphis or downtown and drove to collierville, the commute wouldn't be bad at all.
