What will happen if I drink alcohol while taking Lexapro?
Studies show that LEXAPRO does not increase the cognitive and motor effects brought on by alcohol. However, alcohol may deepen depression. Therefore, the use of alcohol with patients taking LEXAPRO is not recommended. LEXAPRO and alcohol together have caused dizziness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, tremor, somnolence, etc. The LEXAPRO and alcohol connection also caused sinus tachycardia, and convulsions. In more rare cases, LEXAPRO and alcohol caused symptoms of amnesia, confusion, coma, hyperventilation. Of more concern, LEXAPRO and alcohol caused cyanosis, rhabdomyolysis, and ECG changes (including QTc prolongation, nodal rhythm, and ventricular arrhythmia. LEXAPRO and alcohol may have caused one case of torsades de pointes). For a list of side effects of LEXAPRO and alcohol, read LEXAPRO and alcohol warning on the package insert.
Doctors don't usually tell you things because they are being overly cautious. There is good reason for their concerns. These aren't the kind of meds you want to mix with alcohol. Also if you suffer from depression to the point that you need to be on meds, drinking alcohol period is not very smart. That's like trying to put out a fire with gasoline.

Probably better to talk to ask your doctor about that, rather than random people on a message board.

I agree 100%. Using alcohol and any drug almost always carries some level of risk. You doctor can help you understand the risks, and you can then decide if continued alcohol use is worth these risks. Of course, the level of risk is generally proportional to the amount that you drink.

yes they do , its easier for doctors to simply say " don't do it " , they cover their own ass aswell

a pharmacist told me it was fine to drink beer while on Lexapro

I don't drink alcohol to deal with depression , I drink it because I socialise in an environment where drinking is involved , besides im on Lexapro for anxiety caused by chronic pain which im also on meds for

Im on WellbutrinXL use to be 150 but now 300! Alcohol and antidepressant aren't a good mix in general but on my medication bottle it says not to drink alcoholic beverages. Even though I do drink from time to time, but im not condoning it because everybodys body is different. The best thing to do is ask your doctor.

asking a doc if its ok to drink while on anti depressants is like asking a priest - pastor if its ok to skip church , they instinctively reply in the negative
