Go outside? The sun is a natural way to cure depression. It gives you energy to fight your symptoms off...

I'm back. We can stay here or DM, or switch around.

I'm writing more but wanted to check in right away first.

I'll post more in a few minutes. Is it night time where you are?

How long (guess) have you felt like this? Are you worried that it's getting to be too much to deal with?

Are you getting some professional help? I hope so. It can be comforting to know that someone smart and trained is near by to help. Are you on medications?

What is your living situation? Do you have roommates? Do you get along with them?

What is your history with depression? When I had to deal with depression I would spend time alone, doing things like staying perfectly still (I was too lethargic to move around and shift in my chair the way an unaffected person would) and watching ants. I wouldn't even move my eyes. I would just watch them as they tracked around. I would take in what was around me, trying to bask in the splendor of its realness and concreteness. I would try to get at what other people saw in the world that kept them from becoming overwhelmingly depressed (I was very confused about what was happening to me, and saw it as a personal failing some of the time). None of it worked any better than just doing something to keep me occupied. I can say what my experience has been much better, orders of magnitude better, than I can say what to do about it. Do something, anything -- stare at the patterns in a wood floor, or walk around in a light drizzle with no hat on, or stare at the pattern on an ordinary composition notebook and wait for things to emerge out of the chaos (the Mead ones, the original black-and-white fractal-like ones, are the only ones for me. The rest are nothing.) I once emailed the company, when I was severely depressed, to find out how they made the pattern. What was the point behind putting it on the cover? Was it designed with the intent that people would look into the shapes for inspiration while they were writing? It was something to do, some purpose to cling to when nothing seemed to matter.

You may even have to get off the computer to do some of these things :-)

On the other hand, if you want someone to talk to, even someone you can't touch or hear or smell or see, I guess this is one place to find that. I have been through the darkness of depression. I hear what you're saying.
