Hi,

Does anyone else here have OCD or think you have OCD?
Are there any actual medications for it? I must have OCD along with my depression I don't know what else it could be.

Autumn, why do you think you have OCD? It could very well just be the depression.. In any case, I hope you start feeling better.

Autumn, I have a close family member who has been diagnosed with this, and has had it since childhood. It is completely different from depression, as you're probably aware. She is on medication (for OCD and depression) and doing well. She's a teacher and is at school right now, so I can't call her, but I will find out what the medication is and let you know.

This is definitely something that one should see a physician about.

A friend of mine was diagnosed with OCD and anxiety, she was given SSRI (i.e. Prozac, paxil, zoloft, etc.) and something for anxiety (klonopin). I think with true OCD, behavioral/cognitive therapy is supposed to be very helpful. Maybe you could get a referral to a good psychologist who deals with this. Medicine isn't always the only answer.

My ex-girlfriend had OCD and she used to see a specialist ..... it was mostly due to what she went through growing up....she used to wake up in the middle of the night talking and stuff...which pretty much after a while scared the heck out of me but we are still friends though and I still get those 2am - 5am calls about some people trying to kill her and others talking behind her back. Not sure if its all related to OCD but them two years we were together wore me out.

Hi mw555,

Thanks, I think I very well have OCD (this is going to sound weird and no one can possibly understand) but because I obcessively and compulsively brush my teeth and I don't know how to stop.
Yes, I do have depression as well.

I think you have depression, which can make it hard to focus and remember things.

Autumn,

It's interesting you say that, because I kind of do the same thing. At night, I brush my teeth for about 10 minutes, not always though. It's kind of like once I get started I can't stop, I mull over each tooth. I just want to make sure they all get clean. So I can kind of understand the 'need' to keep brushing, I don't have OCD though. But I am weird about my teeth brushing. How often are you brushing your teeth and for how long? Do you have any other symptoms of OCD? I wouldn't so harsh as to put the label on yourself, unless you are absolutely sure. Is it a new thing? I think a lot of other symptoms can manifest out of depression. Maybe you do it for a sense of control over your life? I know you don't have insurance, but you owe it to yourself to see someone; someone who can help you. I have been depressed before, I know how awful it can feel. I'm not saying I know exactly how you feel, but I think I can relate, and a lot of others can as well. You have been depressed for years, right? Pleease, help yourself. You need to do something. Borrow the money, see if you can find a doctor who will work with you. Call around, they can refer you to someone. Don't give up on help, just because you don't have insurance. Money is just money; you are worth more than money. I don't know if I've helped at all or not, but I will come back later to see how you're doing. Think positive and be good to yourself.

SaveMtns,

Thanks. Yes, OCD is different from depression but I have heard that they can go hand in hand. I have depression also.
Is your friend on two medications? One for OCD and one for Depression?
Zoloft and Lexapro didn't work at all for me with depression.
I don't have insurance right now so I cant go see a doctor.

lilypad, Thanks.

I don't have health insurance right now so there is nothing that I can do to get better if it's even possible to get better.
