Schizoaffective disorder Definition - Diseases and Conditions - Mayo Clinic

I'm posting this for people to find via google search and elsewhere if they'd like to identify with having this and are looking for or know of a good support group.

I know someone diagnosed with this, and there is a feeling of helplessness and loneliness. I'd like to find her a support group or start one if needed of others that have the same diagnosis looking for the same.

Something free where people don't have to pay money to meet other people that are in the same situation.

This should be posted in the Mental Health forum.

NAMI is a good source for support groups.

NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness - Mental Health Support, Education and Advocacy

And yes, this should be moved to the mental health forum.

I wasn't aware a mental health forum existed. I have no problem with moving the post. I checked out NAMI.. it'd be nice to find something that didn't cost people money to simply meet though.

I have a brother who is schizophrenic and I've attended NAMI courses for family members and never paid a penny. I think free support groups are available via NAMI. You don't have to pay the $35 annual fee to join NAMI in order to attend their classes/support groups.

From the site:

NAMI State Organizations and local NAMI Affiliates offer an array of free education and support programs for individuals, family members, providers and the general public. These include Family-to-Family, Peer-to-Peer, NAMI Support Group, In Our Own Voice and more.

Schizoaffective is not as common as schizophrenia and mood disorders but it is similar to both. Keep in mind that your friend might also benefit from support groups for other illnesses such as bipolar or schizophrenia.
