Does anyone have any experience with this? Have light boxes worked for you? What are the best brands?

I used to have a HUGE problem with this when I lived in Mass and in Texas. I now live in Florida and I LOVE it.

I never got a lightbox.

You had this prob in Texas? That is a state I wouldn't have thought of to have that. I always thought it was a "north" thing. Interesting.

So you didn't have anything done about it - you just moved.

I have SAD and have a light. I am in the process of selling it now as it didn't work. It was VERY bright and I felt no difference personally. I think it works on some people and not on others from what I have heard. Mine is a Northern Lights brand.

Were you using a full spectrum, UV light, or regular fluorescent (these are the types I have read about re: SAD). How long did you use it? What time of the day?

My sister suffers from "SAD" and does use a light. It does help but I think the sky-lights they had put in their home works better!! It cost a lot more but the benefits have been good.

Hi,

I had a couple of severe experiences many years apart - presumed to be SAD. I did buy a light box ... I'd need to check for the name. I thought it was Verilux, but I'm not sure. I used it for a short period of time and ... whether it was the light box or something else, I felt better within about a week and never really needed to use it again (this was about 4-5 years ago). There have been a couple of times when I thought it might help, but I haven't had a recurrence of the really severe melancholy.

I wanted to add that for me, the real key is to not sleep in. When I sleep in, I become very depressed; when I wake up early (even though I hate waking up early, trust me), I am almost depression-free.

Interesting - I had not thought about the wake time being an issue. I totally understand it. Get up with the light to get the light.

How many hours did you average? Sleeping.

Honestly, the less the better, but just not too little. I guess I do best with around 6-7 hours of sleep; more than 8 hours gets me into trouble. And I love to sleep, trust me!
