Why would someone, male or female, ask an opposite sex friend a favor and then decide that the 2 of them are dating without telling the other party?

Why would this person decide to mark their territory so that other people would know the the two of them were dating when nothing was mentioned by either party regarding dating?

This situation happened to my husband with a former female friend of his. Both of us could not understand why his female friend acted like this. This was before she told him that she had mental health problems and that she was autistic.

See the bold. Pretty obvious answer.

I guess it was HER way of making herself feel better. Maybe she really wants a boyfriend, was wishing it could be him, and then letting the "fantasy" get a little carried away. Maybe she was really hoping for commitment and didn't want any competition.
Mental health problems ,or just plain lack of confidence and self esteem could be a big factor.....NOT autism

I can understand that.

But does your doing one favor for an opposite sex friend at the request of said friend = the two of you dating each-other, and does your doing this give the opposite sex friend the OK to mark her territory regarding you?

I thought austic were introvert people incapable of the elaboration of these types of things.

Autism and Aspergers Syndrome present strange social behaviors and limited capacity to form friendships as well as relationships.
I saw this in my son, as an infant growing on to be a young adult. He is Aspergers. He is now 30 years old, and seems to be able to lead as normal a life as possible, with a job and relationships as well as being a father.
I am now discovering that my spouse is possibly Asperger's. Adult ASD is a whole different spectrum of social issues.

Living with Asperger's

No, it does not....but to someone who's not thinking straight...it might.
Sounds a little scary to me.
Someone I'd want to avoid I think.

How exactly did she *mark her territory*? I would venture to guess that her mental health status skews her ability to remain in the reality of the world.

I don't know how single women do it.
Married women do it by putting "static sheets" in the dryer. These "static sheets" leave a special scent on men's clothing that is only detectable by women. They know in an instant that they are trespassing; some care, some do not.

It took me a few years to figure that out.
