I've never heard of this.
Shoot, all I had to do was lay on the bed, on my back, at my grandmother's. Nice and peaceful, I didn't have a care in the world. That kept me calm and eased my nerves.
I sleep in my bedroom. I don't do much else. The door may be closed or cats sleeping there during the day, but only now and again do I go in, usually to reset the ac.
I also don't even try to sleep when I'm not ready. I'll watch some tv, write something, play with the dogs. But when the restless energy fades, I'm ready. My dogs know the routine. Big dog stays roaming the house. Smaller dog sleeps with me and her kitties (or that's what she sees them as). I settle in bed, turn off the light, and within minutes, I'm out. When I wake up everyone has. And I'm well cuddled.
My dogs also love their kitties, and they will 'purr' in a sort of grumble when they are really happy.
They make weighted blankets, which is a similar concept.
I'd like to try one myself, but they run a little high and I haven't been able to make myself spend the money. Many people like them
I think all the people in my house need a weighted blanket, me included, but that would be a lot of $. They look great, though. They can help, reportedly, with anxiety, for those along the autism spectrum, and for restless leg syndrome
