There are a lot of reasons that some people choose to forego vaccinations, not only because they are afraid of autism. I delayed, spaced out, and skipped some vaccines... not because I was afraid that my babies would get autism from the varicella vaccine or the flu shot, but because I think that a benefits/risk analysis should be done for the individual child. My kids are healthy and didn't need the extra toxins introduced into their bodies when they could most likely fight off the flu or chickenpox if they were exposed. With that said, my son is nearing puberty, and although he has been exposed to chickenpox three times, he has not developed them. I'm going to ask his pediatrician to run a titer, and if he does not have adequate immunity, I think that we'll have him vaxed for it within the next year or so. The risk of getting CP as a teen or an adult is higher than the risk of having the vaccine. That's just an example, of course... people make decisions for their kids for different reasons; it's not necessarily that they were afraid of their kids getting autism from the MMR, though those thoughts may play a part.
It just gets me how they keep changing what they say, not just about vaccines but a lot of things. First it is good for you, time passes and it isn't. Makes me distrust the "experts" advice on a lot of stuff...
There are studies that indicate that vaccines are harmful and there are studies that indicate that vaccines are not harmful
Simple.
The retraction "proves" nothing.
It's up each individual to make his/her own decision about this matter and unfortunately children and animals don't have a say but that's just the way it is at this time.
